UK condemns latest Ukraine violence

Minister for Europe, David Lidington condemns the latest violence in east Ukraine, calling for a full ceasefire.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Responding to the latest reports, David Lidington said:

The United Kingdom strongly condemns the attacks in east Ukraine over the past week in which so many civilians have been killed and yet more injured. My thoughts are with their families and friends, and the people of Ukraine.

These tragic incidents underline the importance of agreeing a proper ceasefire in line with the terms of the Minsk agreements, signed up to by Ukraine and Russia. We call upon all sides to respect and fully implement the agreements immediately. This is the best way to bring lasting peace to Ukraine and an end to the humanitarian suffering in the east of the country; a military response is not the answer.
