Trustee appointed to the National Lottery Heritage Fund Board
The Prime Minister has appointed Ian Bancroft as the Trustee and Chair of the Wales Committee to the National Lottery Heritage Fund board.
Ian Bancroft
Ian has been a public servant for over 35 years, most recently as Chief Executive of Wrexham County Borough Council (2018 to 2024). He has led major heritage projects both in England and Wales including: Wigan Pier, Greenfield Valley, Bailey Hill, North East Wales Archive, Stori Brymbo, Football Museum of Wales, and the Pontcysyllte World Heritage Site.
Ian is also an experienced board member, currently serving as Vice Chair of Sport Wales and Chair of the Electoral Management Board Wales. He also sits on the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport’s UK Town of Culture Advisory Panel.
Ian has been appointed for a term of three years on The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Heritage Memorial Fund Board, commencing on 1 September 2026.
Remuneration and Governance Code
Trustees of the National Lottery Heritage Fund are remunerated at £20,749 per annum.
This appointment has been made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments. The appointments process is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
Under the Code, any significant political activity undertaken by an appointee in the last five years must be declared. This is defined as including holding office, public speaking, making a recordable donation, or candidature for election. Ian Bancroft has not declared any such political activity.
