TheatreHD: UK Season 2018 – 2019

The Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow proudly announces a new season of TheatreHD in Russia in partnership with CoolConnections.

The Merry Wives of Windsor

Live streaming and recorded performances will be screened in cinemas in more than sixty cities across Russia.

This season showcases UK theatre productions featuring stars such as Sir Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jonny Lee Miller, Ralph Fiennes, Sophie Okonedo, Sheridan Smith, Alfred Molina and Mark Gatiss.

Two versions of Shakespeare’s precursor of the contemporary sitcom. Making her debut with the RSC, director Fiona Laird turns the well known text into contemporary buffoonery, while at Shakespeare’s Globe Christopher Luscombe presents a farce in the best classical theatre traditions.

Adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel staged by Oscar-winning film director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) at the Royal National Theatre with Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch alternating in the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his Creature. Both received Laurence Olivier Awards and Evening Standard Awards for their performances.

Leading musical actress Sheridan Smith (winner of two Laurence Olivier Awards, including one for Funny Girl), plays Broadway star Fanny Brice, the role made famous by Barbra Streisand in the Oscar-winning film, in director Michael Mayer’s production.

Classic Spring, from 6 October 2018

Former director of Shakespeare’s Globe and founder of Classic Spring Dominic Dromgoole brings Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy to the West End in a production directed by Michael Fentiman.

Michael Grandage Company, from 7 November 2018

Revival of John Logan’s famous play, directed by Michael Grandage, which won six Tony awards on Braodway and returns to the West End with Alfred Molina Playing artist Mark Rothko.
