The United Kingdom, Sweden, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and the European Union express their firm support for the work of the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) in the fight against impunity under the leadership of its Commissioner, Iván Velásquez.

We recognise and applaud the advances made by CICIG with the support of President Morales’ administration and other State institutions, especially the State Prosecutor’s Office (Ministerio Público).

In accordance with its mandate, CICIG has made progress and will continue working to dismantle the illegal criminal structures which impact the security, prosperity and human rights in Guatemala. We reaffirm that CICIG is an important ally in the strengthening of the Rule of Law and in the fair and sustainable development of the country.
