The Rt Hon Baroness Warsi visits Kazakhstan

The Senior Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, The Rt Hon Baroness Warsi, is visiting to Astana on 3 May.

This is Baroness Warsi’s second visit to Kazakhstan in a week. She attended the Heart of Asia Ministerial Conference in Almaty on the 26 April.

The purpose of Baroness Warsi’s visit is to discuss a wide range of issues ranging from promoting human rights to increasing business links between the UK and Kazakhstan, as well as promoting the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Baroness Warsi will have a series of high-level meetings with key Kazakh government officials – Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov, Deputy Prime Minister Kairat Kelimbetov, Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov, Speaker of the Parliament Nurlan Nigmatullin, and Astana’s Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov.

On her visit, Baroness Warsi commented:

The UK and Kazakhstan have built a strong bilateral relationship based on mutual respect, interests and trust. This visit, my second in a week, will allow me to discuss areas of partnership and cooperation that are of interest to both our countries with Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov, Deputy Prime Minister Kairat Kelimbetov, Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov, Speaker of the Parliament Nurlan Nigmatullin and Astana’s Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov. Through dialogue we can strengthen the ties between both our countries and our people.
