The Department for Education comments on education funding

A response to media reports about an education national funding formula and the forthcoming education white paper.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

In response to media reports about a national funding formula and the forthcoming education white paper, a Department for Education spokesperson said:

The government made it clear in its school funding consultation earlier this year that its longer-term aim is to bring in a simpler, more transparent and fairer funding system, and to help reduce the funding differences between similar schools in different areas (Consultation on school funding 2011 to 2012, July 2010).

We want to work closely with local authorities and schools to ensure a stable transition to any new system, taking account of their experiences of the current arrangements, and its strengths and weaknesses. There will therefore be a full and detailed consultation on school funding changes for 2012 to 2013 and beyond.
