Suffragan Bishop of Stepney

The Very Reverend Adrian Newman, BSc, MPhil, Dean of Rochester in the Diocese of Rochester is nominated to the Suffragan See of Stepney in the Diocese of London.

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Very Reverend Adrian Newman, BSc, MPhil, Dean of Rochester in the Diocese of Rochester, to the Suffragan See of Stepney in the Diocese of London, in succession to the Right Reverend Stephen John Oliver, AKC on his resignation on the 30 September 2010.

Notes for Editors

The Very Reverend Adrian Newman (aged 52) studied at Bristol University and trained for the ministry at Trinity College Bristol. He was ordained in 1985, and prior to his current appointment as Dean of Rochester he served in a variety of urban parishes in East London, Sheffield and Birmingham.

Adrian Newman is the only Dean to have completed the London Marathon and cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats. His interests include sport, and the music of U2, Bruce Springsteen, and the folk group Show of Hands.

Dean Newman is married with 3 adult sons.
