I am deeply shocked and saddened by the death of Pavel Sheremet this morning in a car explosion. I knew Pavel personally and enjoyed his company and wise insights. He was a talented and fearless journalist who will be sorely missed. I would like to express my condolences to his partner, Olena Prytula, his friends and family, and his colleagues at Ukrainska Pravda.
I welcome the statement by Khatia Dekanoidze, Head of the National Police, and her personal commitment to conduct a thorough investigation. At this time of grief, it is important that we allow Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies to conduct their investigations and refrain from harmful speculation.
