State of Emergency in Jamaica extended

The State of Emergency in Kingston has been extended until 22 July 2010, and expanded to include the Parish of St. Catherine.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The State of Emergency, which has been in effect in the Parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew since 23 May 2010, has been extended until 22 July 2010, and expanded to include the Parish of St. Catherine. Movement restrictions and police checkpoints may be put in place at short notice in any part of these Parishes.

Security force activity is particularly likely in and around West Kingston (especially in Tivoli Gardens, Denham Town and Mountain View) as well as areas adjacent to Spanish Town Road and Spanish Town itself.

You should exercise caution if travelling close to these areas, monitor local media for updates on the current situation, and follow the instructions of the Jamaican security forces at any checkpoint.
