Soldier from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards killed in Afghanistan

It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards was killed in Afghanistan on Friday 14 September 2012.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The soldier was killed when the vehicle in which he was travelling struck an improvised explosive device in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Major Laurence Roche, said:** **

I am very sorry to announce that a soldier from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards died yesterday when the vehicle he was travelling in struck an improvised explosive device.

The thoughts of every one of us serving in Afghanistan are with his family, friends and fellow Guardsmen at this time.

The soldier’s family have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
