Soldier from 1 SCOTS killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (1 SCOTS) was killed in Aghanistan on Sunday 11 November 2012.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The soldier was shot in an ‘insider attack’ at Forward Operating Base Shawqat in the Nad ‘Ali district of Helmand province.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Major Laurence Roche, said yesterday:

I am very sorry to report the death of a soldier from 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland who was shot by an individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform at his base in the Nad ‘Ali district of Helmand province.

This is incredibly sad news for the battalion and everyone serving in Task Force Helmand. As we mark remembrance this weekend, our thoughts now turn to the soldier’s family and friends whose loss is so much greater than ours.

The soldier’s family have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
