Teams from Wales and England took part, and two of England’s Olympic hopefuls reached the finals in their
weight divisions.

After sublime displays of boxing that saw off their opponents in the semi final stages, Nicola Adams took on China’s Cancan Ren for Women’s World Championship gold and Savannah Marshall faced up to Andrecia Wasson of the USA. Although both boxers lost out on the gold medal position, they put in sterling performances, claimed silver medals and made strong progress towards Olympic success in London in 2012.

British High Commissioner to Barbados Paul Brummell and High Commission staff were delighted to host the English female boxers, their coaches, and supporters and families at his residence to a proper English afternoon tea, complete with victoria jam sandwich cake.
