The incident happened about 12.43pm today (Thursday) which has caused the M1 to close northbound.

Police and Highways England Traffic Officers are currently at the scene dealing with the incident.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and allow extra time for their journey especially those travelling to Luton airport as there are significant delays on the diversion routes and traffic is queuing back to junction 7.

The motorway is likely to remain closed for some time while a police investigation is carried out. The M1 will fully reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
