Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl Gillan has today (11 April) welcomed the safeguarding of jobs at Airbus in Flintshire, after the announcement of £326m to sell 11 A330 aircraft to airline Garuda. The announcement came as the Prime Minister visited Indonesia.

Mrs Gillan said:

“Airbus is a great contributor to the UK economy and I have visited their factory at Broughton a number of times, so I know this will be welcome news. The Garuda deal pays tribute to the expertise of Airbus’s workforce and is good news for the North Wales economy and UK as a whole.

“Airbus’ continues to build upon their successes and I was lucky enough to be with the Prime Minister when he opened their new North factory at Broughton a few months ago, where the carbon-fibre wings for the new A350 airliner will be made.”
