I would like to pay tribute to Peter Robinson who has announced that he will soon be standing down as First Minister and leader of the DUP.
Peter has been a central figure in Northern Ireland politics for over four decades. In his long and distinguished record of public service both in the House of Commons and the Assembly, he has championed the interests of Northern Ireland with unparalleled effectiveness, determination and dedication.
In my time as Secretary of State I have worked closely with Peter as we have sought to put power-sharing devolved government on a stable footing, able to deliver effectively for everyone in Northern Ireland. Peter was key to the Agreement reached this week and he can be rightly proud of his contribution.
