The British Embassy's Deputy Head of Mission, Clare Allbless, and Mr. Andriy Larin, Political Affairs Officer at the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), join the UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy 2025.
Participants agreed that regional cooperation and preventive diplomacy are essential to tackle the worsening climate crisis. The countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan are among the most climate-vulnerable in the world, facing water scarcity, desertification and glacier melt.
The discussion underscored the vital role of young people in shaping climate policymaking. Their energy, ideas, and leadership are key to building a sustainable future.
The UK is pleased to support Central Asian governments and peoples in their efforts to tackle climate change and build resilience to its impact, in line with its global priorities:
- keeping 1.5°C within reach
- supporting developing countries through finance, technology and capacity building
- accelerating the energy transition and protecting biodiversity
