Our ground-breaking project management degree apprenticeship has been named developmental programme of the year by the Association for Project Management.

The news, announced last night, came as we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2023.

Now in its 10th year, the Sellafield Ltd project management degree apprenticeship is a leading programme in the North West.

During the scheme candidates are educated to degree level, whilst completing professional qualifications and practical work placements across all areas within the nuclear industry.

Our scheme is enhancing the skills of a varied cohort of students whilst also making entry into the industry more diverse and inclusive.

Andrew Vaughan, project management apprentice scheme manager said:

By combining a degree education at the University of Cumbria, professional qualifications and real-world experience in projects, this scheme is producing high quality project professionals.

A number of our former apprentices are now working as project managers in our organisation – which reflects the impact and success of our scheme.

Ultimately, we’re developing future project professionals to deliver our purpose of creating a clean and safe environment for future generations.

Receiving this award is a fantastic highlight for our 10th anniversary – and building on this success, I look forward to seeing what the future brings!

Sellafield Ltd projects director Andy Sharples added:

Fantastic news that our project apprentice programme was named development programme of the year by the Association for Project Management.

We need the best project managers to deliver the infrastructure needed to create a clean and safe environment for future generations, and this award confirms what we already knew - our project apprentice development is second-to none.
