On 8 September 2017 Her Majesty’s Ambassador Chris Allan hosted a pre-departure event for Chevening scholars from Uzbekistan, who are about to start their studies in leading UK universities.
Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities across the UK. Since 1994, around two hundred Uzbek professionals have been awarded Chevening Scholarships.
This year, after a competitive selection process, eight Uzbek specialists from different spheres received Chevening scholarships. The winners will study in various universities in the UK, including UCL, City University of London, London School of Economics and Political Science, Queen Mary University of London, Cardiff University, Bristol University, University of Surrey, Birkbeck University of London. Uzbek scholars will be studying diverse disciplines including pedagogy and curriculum development, law, music, public policy, air transport management, education, energy and finance.
Furthermore, a candidate from Uzbekistan was selected as a Chevening OCIS Fellow and will be able to conduct research at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.
Applications for Chevening Scholarships for the next academic year will be open until 7 November 2017.
