Planned roadworks in the North East – weekly summary for Monday 20 to Sunday 26 July

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 17 July and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1M Junction 59 to 61, County Durham

The northbound A1M will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for resurfacing work on Tuesday 21 and Tuesday 28 July, and southbound on Wednesday 22, Thursday 23 and Monday 27 July. The northbound carriageway will also be closed 24 hours a day from 8pm on Friday 24 July until 6am on Monday 27 July, with traffic running in both directions on the southbound carriageway. Diversions will be in place.

A1M junction 50 Baldersby, North Yorkshire

A northbound lane closure will be in place for technology work between 6am and 9.30am on Saturday 25 July.

A1(M) junction 49 Dishforth

Work to resurface 3 roundabouts at the junction is due to begin on Monday 20 July. The project will be carried out overnight, between 8pm and 6am, during week nights and temporary traffic lights will be in use. The project is due to be completed by Thursday 6 August.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day, and a lane closure on the junction 51 roundabout between 9am and 4pm until the end of October. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight between junction 50 and Scotch Corner, and the southbound carriageway between Scotch Corner and junction 51, on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July. The road will be closed between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The A1 will be closed overnight northbound between Eighton Lodge and Dunston, and southbound between Scotswood and Coalhouse Interchange, from Monday 20 to Friday 24 July. The road will be closed between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1 Alnwick, Northumberland

The northbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge. Traffic is running in both directions on the southbound carriageway 24 hours a day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by August.

A66 Scotch Corner to Hartforth, North Yorkshire

The westbound side of the A66 will be closed while resurfacing work takes place. Traffic will be running in both directions on the eastbound carriageway 24 hours a day. This project will complete early August.
