Planned roadworks in the North East – summary for Monday 8 to Sunday 14 June

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 5 June and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1M Junction 63 Chester-le-Street to 62 Durham

The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for resurfacing work between junctions 63 and 62 from Saturday 6 until Monday 15 June, apart from on Wednesday 10 June. A clearly-signed diversion will be in place.

A1M Junction 50, North Yorkshire

There will be a lane closure on the northbound side of the A1M for technology work from 6am until 9.30am on Saturday 13 June.

A1 Junction 56 Barton to Junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day, and a lane closure on the junction 51 roundabout between 9am and 4pm until the end of October. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1 Alnwick, Northumberland

The southbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge. Traffic is running in both directions on the northbound carriageway 24 hours a day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by August.

A66 Blands Corner to Little Burdon, Darlington

The road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Thursday 4 until Thursday 11 June while work takes place to paint new road markings and white lines.

A66 Long Newton to Teesside Park

Sections of the A66 between Long Newton to Teesside Park will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Friday 12 June until Friday 3 July while work takes place to paint new road markings, white lines and replace reflective road studs. Only one section will be closed at any one time, and clearly-signed diversions will be in place.
