Planned roadworks in the North East – summary for Monday 7 September to Sunday 13 September

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 4 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 Junction 56 Barton to Junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day, and a lane closure on the junction 51 (Leeming Bar) roundabout between 9am and 4pm until the end of October. In addition to this the southbound and northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, from 8pm until 6am, between junction 56 (Barton) and Scotch Corner, from Monday 7 September until Saturday 12 September. There will be a southbound carriageway closure overnight, from 8pm until 6am, between Scotch Corner and junction 51 (Leeming Bar) on Saturday 12 September. The northbound will be also be closed during the same times between junction 50 (Baldersby) and Scotch Corner. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. In addition to this the road will be closed north and southbound at Lobley Hill. This will take place from Monday 7 until Sunday 13 September between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1 Alnwick, Northumberland

There will be daytime lane closures in place between 8am and 5pm for structural works. This will take place from Monday 7 September until Sunday 13 September. This project is due for completion 13 September.

A1 Stannington, Northumberland

Traffic will run in both directions on the southbound carriageway while work takes place to resurface the northbound carriageway until 6am on Wednesday 9 September. Following on from this there will be a 24 hour lane closure until the project completes on Friday 18 September.

A66 Bowes to Cumbrian Border, County Durham

There will be 24 hour contraflow in place for resurfacing work. The westbound carriageway will be closed with both directions travelling on the eastbound carriageway. This will take place until the middle of September.

A66 Cross Lanes to Scotch Corner, County Durham

There will be convoy working in operation east and westbound between 8pm and 6am for lining work. This project is due for completion Thursday 10 September.

A66 Surtees Bridge to Teesside Shopping Park, Teesside

There will be closures on the eastbound carriageway on Monday 7 September between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing works. This project is due for completion on Friday 2 October.

A1 Berwick, Northumberland

There will be traffic signals in operation on the northbound carriageway for technology works. This will take place on Wednesday 9 September between 8pm and 6am.
