Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 5 to 11 October
Planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 2 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1/A194M junction 65 to Whitemarepool, Gateshead
There will be various phases of lane closures, carriageway closures and contraflow, north and southbound for resurfacing work. From Monday 5 to Thursday 8 October there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junction 65 and Havannah interchange, and a southbound lane closure between Whitemare Pool roundabout and junction 65. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place where the road is closed. There will then be a 24 hour contraflow with the northbound carriageway closed and all traffic travelling on the southbound carriageway, taking place from 8pm on Friday 9 October to 6am on Monday 12 October. In addition to this there will be a daytime lane closure 9.30am to 3.30pm from Monday 5 September to Friday 9 October. This project is due for completion by mid November.
A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day, and a lane closure on the junction 51 roundabout between 9am and 4pm until the end of October. In addition to this the southbound and northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, from 8pm until 6am, between junction 56 (Barton) and Scotch Corner, and southbound between Catterick North and Catterick South interchanges. This will take place from Monday 5 to Friday 9 October. There will also be a southbound carriageway closure overnight from 8pm until 6am, between Scotch Corner and junction 51, and the northbound carriageway will be closed between junction 50 and Scotch Corner. This closure will take place Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.
A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead
Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. There will also be a carriageway closure north and southbound at Lobley Hill with a diversion in place. This will take place Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.
A1 Oxford to Scremerston, Northumberland
There will be a carriageway closure north and southbound for resurfacing work, from Monday 5 to Friday 9 October, between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place. The project is due to be completed early November.
A1 Causey Park to Felton, Northumberland
There will be convoy working in operation north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until the end of October, between 8pm and 6am.
A1 Warreners House, Northumberland
There will be a closure of the northbound exit slip road between 8pm and 6am for survey work. This will take place on Wednesday 30 September and Thursday 1 October, between 8pm and 6am.
A1 Denwick to South Charlton
There will be traffic signals in place north and southbound between 8pm and 6am for survey work. This will take place Monday 5 until Tuesday 20 October.
A66 Smallways to Greta Bridge, County Durham
There will be 24 hour contraflow in place for resurfacing work. The westbound carriageway will be closed with both directions travelling on the eastbound carriageway. This will take place until Friday 23 October.
A66 Preston Farm Interchange to Thornaby, Teesside
There will be a carriageway closure eastbound between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing work. This will take place until Thursday 22 October.
A19 Silverlink Retail Park, North Tyneside
There will be phases of full closures north and southbound with the southbound exit slip road and northbound entry slip road closed overnight at the A19 junction with the A1058, near the Silverlink retail park, for bridge repair work. The project is due to be completed by Tuesday 20 October.
A19 Moor Farm to Fisher Lane, North Tyneside
There will be a carriageway closure in place on the northbound carriageway between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing work. This will take place from Thursday 8 until Saturday 10 October.
