Summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Thursday 31 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. There will be a carriageway closure north and southbound at Scotch Corner with a diversion up and over the interchange. This will take place Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 January between 8pm and 6am. Then on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 January there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner, and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51, between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.
A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead
Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 70, and southbound between junctions 73 and 67. This will take place Monday 4 to Friday 8 January between 8pm and 6am. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.
A1 Morpeth, Northumberland
There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place.
A66 Little Burdon, Darlington, County Durham
There will be work ongoing until mid January 2016 for resurfacing and electrical work. The eastbound carriageway will be closed on Thursday 7 January, and the westbound will be closed on Friday 8 and Sunday 10 January. All closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.
A1 Haggerston, Northumberland
There will be a daytime lane closure north and southbound between 6am and 4pm, with night time traffic signals and lane closures between 8pm and 6am. This will take place from Thursday 7 to Friday 15 January.
