Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 30 May to Sunday 5 June 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 27 May but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards.

There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. On Tuesday 31 May and Tuesday 1 June the northbound entry slip road will be closed at Scotch Corner. Then on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June the carriageway under Scotch Corner interchange will be closed with traffic being diverted up and over the interchange.

All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. From Tuesday 31 May to Friday 3 June there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 70, and southbound between junctions 69 and 67.

All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by early summer 2016.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place.

From Tuesday 31 May to Friday 3 June there will be a carriageway closure north and southbound, taking place between 8pm and 7am with a diversion in place.

There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

A1 Berwick Upon Tweed, Northumberland

There will be a lane closure in place north and southbound for survey work. This will take place from Tuesday 31 May to Friday 10 June between 9am and 4pm.

A66 Blands Corner to Blackwell, Darlington, County Durham

There will be a carriageway closure east and westbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Tuesday 7 June between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. There will also be a 40mph speed restriction in place during the daytime.

A696 Woolsington Interchange, Newcastle Upon Tyne

There will be a lane closure in place northbound for improvement work. This will take place until Friday 17 June between 8am and 6pm.
