The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Tuesday 23 August but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From Tuesday 30 to Sunday3 September there will be an up and over closure at Scotch Corner with northbound entry slip road closed and south section of the roundabout. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.

A1 Blaydon Haugh Viaduct, Newcastle Upon Tyne

There is a 50mph limit in operation over Blaydon Haugh Viaduct due to the installation of temporary plates over defective viaduct joints. There will be weekly night time northbound closures planned to monitor and maintain the bridging plates.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

A1 Metro Centre, Newcastle Gateshead Western Bypass

There will be various lane closures north and southbound with a full closure of the northbound exit slip road for drainage work. This will take place from Wednesday 24 August until mid September between 8pm and 6am.

A66 Bowes to Cumbrian Border, County Durham

There will be lane 1 closures with traffic lights and convoy east and westbound for maintenance work. This will take place until mid October 24 hours a day.

A66 Newton Grange to Elton, County Durham

There will be various phases of overnight traffic signals with convoy working and carriageway closures eastbound for resurfacing work. This will take place from Monday 30 August to mid September between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.

There will be various phases of overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am for interchange improvement work. There will also be a 24 hour 30mph speed restriction with narrow lanes.

A66 Teesside Park to A19

There will be a full closure of the eastbound carriageway between the A19 Teesside Park and the A19 for resurfacing work from Tuesday 30 August until Thursday 1st September. The work will be carried out overnight between 9pm and 6am.

A19 South Kilvington and Osmotherley

There will be a full closure of the northbound carriageway between South Kilvington (A61) and Osmotherly (A689) for resurfacing work from Tuesday 30 August until Sunday 4 September. The work will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am. Clearly signed diversions will be in place.
