Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 25 to 31 January 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 22 January but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day.

There will be a southbound closure of lane 1 from junction 56 to Scotch Corner on Monday 25 January to Wednesday 27 and Friday 29 January between 8pm and 6am. There will be a northbound carriageway closure from junction 50 to Scotch Corner between 8pm and 6am. This closure will take place from Monday 25 to Friday 29 January. There will also be a carriageway closure north and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 56, taking place Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 January between 8pm and 6am. Diversions will be in place for all closures. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There will be a carriageway closure northbound between Junction 67 and 69, and southbound between Junction 69 and 67 from Monday 25 to Friday 29 January, taking place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place.

A1 Alnwick to Deanmoor, Northumberland

There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The southbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the northbound carriageway. This will take place until mid February.

A66 Little Burdon, Darlington, County Durham

There will be work ongoing until 29 January 2016 for resurfacing and electrical work. There will be daytime lane closure westbound between 9.30am and 3.30pm until Friday 29 January.

A66 Bowes to Cross Lanes, County Durham

There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The westbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the eastbound carriageway. This will take place until Friday 29 January.

A19 Holystone to Killingworth Interchange, North Tyneside

There will be phases of slip road, carriageway and lane closures north and southbound for improvement work. This will take place until early February between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place.

A1 Seaton Burn, Fisher Lane Roundabout

Sewer repair works at Fisher Lane Roundabout will be carried out between 8pm and 6am from Friday 22 January to Monday 25 January. The roundabout circulatory carriageway will be reduced to one lane during this time.

A19 Seaton Burn to Moor Farm Interchange, North Tyneside

There will be a carriageway closure northbound for resurfacing work. This will take place Monday 25 to Wednesday 27 January between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.
