Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 19 to Sunday 25 October

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 16 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1/A194M junction 65 to Whitemarepool, Gateshead

There will be various phases of lane closures, carriageway closures and contraflow, north and southbound for resurfacing work. From Monday 19 to Thursday 22 October there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junction 65 and Havannah interchange, and a southbound lane closure between Whitemare Pool roundabout and junction 65. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place where the road is closed. There will then be a 24 hour contraflow with the northbound carriageway closed and all traffic travelling on the southbound carriageway, taking place from 8pm on Friday 23 October to 6am on Monday 26 October. In addition to this there will be a daytime lane closure 9.30am until 3.30pm from Monday 19 September to Friday 23 October. This project is due for completion by mid November.

A1M junction 62, County Durham

There will be a closure of the circulatory and all slip roads for resurfacing work. This will take place from Monday 19 to Thursday 29 October between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. In addition to this there will be a southbound carriageway closure overnight from 8pm until 6am, between Scotch Corner and junction 51, and the northbound will be closed between junction 50 and Scotch Corner. This closure will take place from Monday 19 to Saturday 24 October. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. In addition to this there will be a full closure north and southbound between junction 67 and junction 69, with diversions in place. This will take place from Monday 19 to Friday 23 October between 8pm and 6am. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1 Oxford to Scremerston, Northumberland

There will be a carriageway closure north and southbound for resurfacing work, from Monday 19 to Friday 23 October, between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place. The project is due to be completed early November.

A1 Causey Park to Felton, Northumberland

There will be convoy working in operation north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Friday 23 October, between 8pm and 6am.

A1 Denwick to South Charlton

There will be traffic signals in place north and southbound between 8pm and 6am for survey work. This will take place until Tuesday 20 October.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures. From Monday 19 to Friday 23 October there will be a daytime lane closure in place north and southbound between 8.30am and 5.30pm.

A1 Purdy Lodge, South of Belford, Northumberland

There will be traffic signals in place north and southbound between 8pm and 6am for survey work. This will take place Monday 19 October.

A1 Brownieside, Northumberland

There will be a lane closure north and southbound for inspection work. This will take place Monday 19 October between 9am and 4pm.

A66 Smallways to Greta Bridge, County Durham

There will be 24 hour contraflow in place for resurfacing work. The westbound carriageway will be closed with both directions travelling on the eastbound carriageway. This will take place until 31 October.

A66 Preston Farm interchange to Thornaby, Teesside

There will be a carriageway closure eastbound between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing work. This will take place until Sunday 25 October.

A66 Little Burdon to Long Newton, County Durham

There will be work ongoing until January 2016 for resurfacing and electrical work. Overnight the eastbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling in contraflow on the westbound carriageway, taking place between 8pm and 6am. There will also be a daytime lane closure east and westbound between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

A66 Cross Lanes to Hulands, County Durham

There will be 24 hour contraflow in place for resurfacing work. The eastbound carriageway will be closed with both directions travelling on the westbound carriageway. Work will start on Saturday 24 October for four weeks.

There will be phases of full closures north and southbound with the southbound exit slip road and northbound entry slip road closed overnight at the A19 junction with the A1058, near the Silverlink retail park, for bridge repair work. The project is due to be completed by Tuesday 20 October.
