Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 18 to Sunday 24 July 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 15 July but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. There will be a southbound closure at Scotch Corner with traffic being diverted up and over the junction, taking place on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July.

There will also be a partial closure of Scotch Corner roundabout from Tuesday 19 to Thursday 21 July. Following on from this, on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 July there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner, and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

From Monday 18 to Friday 22 July there will be a lane closures north and southbound between junctions 67 and 71. The southbound entry and exit slip roads at junction 68 will be closed. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by early August.

A1M junctions 60 to 61, County Durham

There will then be a contraflow in place north and southbound every night between 8pm and 6am with daytime 50mph speed restriction and hard shoulder running for structural maintenance. This project will take place until early August.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

A1 Ellingham to Belshill, Northumberland

There will be various phases of traffic signals north and southbound for investigation work. This will take place until 27 July between 8pm and 6am.

A1 Berwick, Northumberland

There will be traffic signals in place north and southbound for bridge maintenance work. This will take place until early August between 8pm and 6am.

A66 Hartforth to Scotch Corner, North Yorkshire

There will be a convoy working in place east and westbound for resurfacing work, taking place between 8pm and 6am. This project is due for completion on Sunday 24 July.

A66 Bowes to Boldron, County Durham

There will be a carriageway closure east and westbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Thursday 28 July between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place.

A66M junction 57 to Blackwell, County Durham

There will be a carriageway closure east and westbound for resurfacing work. This will take place on Wednesday 20 July between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place.
