Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 11 to 17 January 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 8 January but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. There will be a carriageway closure southbound between junction 56 and Scotch Corner. This will take place from Monday 11 to Sunday 17 January, between 8pm and 6am with a diversion in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 70, and southbound between junctions 73 and 67. This will take place Monday 11 to Friday 15 January between 8pm and 6am. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place.

A1 Berwick Upon Tweed, Northumberland

There will be traffic signals in operation north and southbound between 8pm and 6am. This will take place until Thursday 22 January.

A1 Haggerston, Northumberland

There will be a daytime lane closure north and southbound between 6am and 4pm, with night time traffic signals and lane closures between 8pm and 6am. This will take place until Friday 15 January.

A1 Alnwick to Deanmoor, Northumberland

There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The southbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the northbound carriageway. This will take place from Monday 11 January until mid February.

A66 Little Burdon, Darlington, County Durham

There will be work ongoing until mid January 2016 for resurfacing and electrical work. The westbound carriageway will be closed from Monday 11 to Monday 18 January between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.

A66 Bowes to Cross Lanes, County Durham

There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The westbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the eastbound carriageway. This will take place from Sunday 10 to the end of January.
