Planned roadworks in the East Midlands: Weekly summary for Monday 4 May to Sunday 10 May

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 1 May 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 19 at Catthorpe, Leicestershire: major improvement works

Tuesday 5 May, Wednesday 6 May and Friday 8 May Junction 19 of the M1 will be closed on between 9pm and 6am. Diversions will be in place and clearly signposted.

M1 junction 18 to 20 (Catthorpe), Leicestershire: junction improvements

Until November 2017, there will be a 50mph limit on the southbound carriageway.

M1 junction 24/A50 Approach Economy Scheme

Work to improve the capacity and traffic flows at M1 Junction 24 is nearing completion. There will continue to be traffic management in place around the junction and its approaches at night times. There are no full closures over the next week.

Customers travelling to and from East Midlands Airport should allow extra time for their journeys during this work, particularly if they have a flight to catch. For real time traffic information visit the Highways England traffic information web page.

M1 junction 24 – major traffic alteration at Parkway Junction

Friday May 8 from 9pm there will be a traffic alteration for motorists travelling between M1 Junction 24 and West Leake.

Westbound traffic (coming from the Nottingham/ Clifton direction) will lose direct access to East Midlands Parkway/ the Power Station. Westbound traffic wishing to access Parkway Junction should continue to junction 24 and return along the A453 eastbound, where the newly built slip road to Parkway Junction will be open. This route will be in place until the scheme is complete, scheduled for the end of May.

It is recommended that those wishing to access the Parkway Junction from the westbound carriageway allow an extra 15 minutes when planning their journeys.

A453 major improvement scheme

Saturday 9 May to Saturday 16 May

Green Street will be closed 24 hours a day between New Road and Mill Hill, with access to the A453 via West Leake Junction. Diversions will be in place and signposted.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016 there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures. This week the following full closures will be in place:

  • Tuesday 5 May:
    • the entry slip road at junction 30 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am: the up and over at junction 34 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am
  • Wednesday 6 May:
    • the entry slip road at junction 35 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am: the exit slip road at junction 35a will be closed between 8pm and 6am
    • the entry slip road at junction 30 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am
  • Thursday 7 May:
    • the exit slip road at junction 35 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am
    • the entry slip road at junction 30 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am
  • Friday 8 May:
    • the northbound up and and over junction will be closed between 8pm and 6am
    • the exit slip road at junction 35 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am.
    • the entry slip road at junction 34 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am
  • Saturday 9 May:
    • the exit slip road at junction 35a northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am
    • the entry slip road at junction 35 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am
  • Sunday 10 May:
    • the entry slip road at junction 34 northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am
    • the southbound up and over will be closed at junction 34 southbound between 8pm and 6am

Selected lane closures will also be in place along this stretch of the M1.

A14 junction 7 to 9, Northamptonshire:widening

Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 May

Full overnight closure of the eastbound carriageway between junction 7 and junction 9 from 8pm on Tuesday to 6am on Wednesday morning.

This stretch will be closed again from 8pm on Wednesday to 6am on Thursday morning.

Thursday 7 and Friday 8 May

Full closure of the westbound carriageway between between junction 9 and 7 from 8pm on Thursday evening to 6am on Friday morning.

The road will be closed again from 8pm on Friday evening to 6am on Saturday morning.

A43 Padbury roundabout to Barley Mow Roundabout, Northamptonshire: carriageway resurfacing

The carriageway will be closed in both directions overnight between 7.30pm and 6am up until 9 May. Diversions will be clearly signposted.

A1 Beacon Hill Road, Coddington, Nottinghamshire

The northbound exit slip road continues to be closed 24 hours a day for construction works until 11 June.

M45 Dunchurch to M1 junction 17, Northamptonshire

From 9 February to 6 May restrictions are in place on the eastbound carriageway, including overnight carriageway closures from 8pm to 6am or 24/7 closures of the hard shoulder and lane one with a 50mph speed limit. During full closures traffic will be diverted via the A45 to Daventry and Weedon to join the M1 at junction 16.
