Planned roadworks in the East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 29 June to Sunday 5 July 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 26 June 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 15 to 19, Northamptonshire: smart motorway preparatory work

Until summer 2015, there will be various restrictions in place to allow for the construction of a reinforced concrete barrier in the central reserve. These include speed restrictions, narrow lanes and hard shoulder running.

The following work is scheduled for this week:

From Monday 29 June to Sunday 5 July, there will be lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageways between junction 16 and 18, from 8pm to 6am each night.

The M6 southbound will be closed from junction 1 to junction 19 of the M1 from 8pm on Tuesday 30 June until 6am the next morning. A signed diversion route will be in place.

M1 junction 19, Catthorpe Interchange, Leicestershire: major improvement scheme

Overnight on Monday 29 June, Tuesday 30 June and Wednesday 1 July, the M6 northbound entry slip from Dumbbells will be closed from 9pm until 6am.

On Tuesday 30 June, the M6 to M1 southbound link will be closed between 9pm and 6am.

M1 junction 24/A50 Approach Economy Scheme

Work to improve the capacity and traffic flows at M1 Junction 24 is nearing completion. There will continue to be traffic management in place around the junction and its approaches at night times. There are no full closures over the next week.

Customers travelling to and from East Midlands Airport should allow extra time for their journeys during this work, particularly if they have a flight to catch. For real time traffic information please visit our website

A453, Nottinghamshire: major improvement scheme

The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, from Silverdale junction to Farnborough Road junction, on July 1 from 8pm to 5.30am.

M1 junction 24 diversions

On Tuesday 30 June, the M1 junction 24 south bridge will be closed between 8pm and 5.30am. On Wednesday 1 July, from 8pm to 5.30am, the north bridge at junction 24 will be closed. Also on 1 July, the northbound entry slip at junction 24 will be closed between 8pm and 6am.

During south bridge closures, a diversion will take drivers onto the M1 southbound, to turn at junction 23, and return to junction 24 via the M1 northbound.

During the north bridge closure, a diversion will take traffic northbound to junction 25, turn, and come back to junction 24 via the M1 southbound.

The northbound entry slip closure will have a diversion to take traffic onto the M1 via junction 23a.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016 there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the Smart Motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures. This week the following full closures will be in place:

On Monday 29 June and Tuesday 30 June, the northbound entry slip road at M1 junction 28 will be closed between 8pm and 6am.

On Wednesday 1 July, the southbound entry slip at junction 29a will be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am.

On Friday 3 July, the southbound entry slip road at junction 30 will be closed from 8pm to 6am.

M1 junction 21 to 20, Leicestershire: bridge repairs

From Thursday 28 May to 20 August there will be a permanent closure of the hard shoulder with selected lane closures and 50 mph speed restrictions between 8pm and 6am.

A5 Crick to Magna Park, Leicestershire/Warwickshire: diversion

A diversion route will be in place on the northbound and southbound carriageway from 9pm to 6am each night, due to work at M1 junction 19.

A14 Kettering, Northamptonshire: resurfacing

The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight between junction 10 and junction 7 each night from Monday 29 June through to Sunday 5 July. The carriageway will close at 8pm and reopen at 6am the next morning (last night of work finishes at 6am, Monday 6 July).

There will also be a full closure of the westbound carriageway between junction 9 and junction 7 from 8pm on Monday 6 July til 6am on Tuesday 7 July.

During the day, the newly-widened A14, with three lanes in both directions, will be open to traffic.

During closures of the westbound carriageway, a diversion will be in place. Through traffic can exit the A14 at junction 12, onto the A6116 to Stanion, and continue along the A43 to rejoin the A14 at junction 7. Local traffic will be able to use the junctions up to the actual closure point at junction 10. The westbound entry slip roads at junction 9 and junction 8 will also be closed.

A43 between Towcester and Bilsworth, Northamptonshire: carriageway repairs

The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 8pm on Wednesday 1 July until 5am on 2 July.

A45 Wilby Way to Billing, Northamptonshire: carriageway repairs

The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 8pm on 28 June until 6am on 29 June.

A46 Farndon roundabout, Nottinghamshire: resurfacing

The carriageway will be closed southbound between Cattlemarket roundabout and Farndon roundabout, overnight from 8pm to 6am from 30 June to 9 July.
