Planned roadworks in the East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 15 to Sunday 21 June 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 12 June 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 15 to 19, Northamptonshire: smart motorway preparatory work

Until summer 2015, there will be various restrictions in place to allow for the construction of a reinforced concrete barrier in the central reserve. These include speed restrictions, narrow lanes and hard shoulder running.

Between Monday 15 June and Sunday 21 June there will be overnight lane closures in both directions between junctions 17 and 18.

M1 junction 19, Catthorpe: major improvement scheme

On Monday 15 June and Tuesday 16 June the M1 northbound carriageway will be closed between junction 19 off slip road to the M6 and junction 19 on slip road from the A14. At the same time the M1 southbound carriageway will be closed between the M1 to A14 off slip road and the M6 on slip road at junction 19.

The closures are from 9pm until 6am the following morning.

On Wednesday 17 June the M1 to M6 northbound link road will be closed to M6 junction 1, and the southbound link road will also be closed from M6 junction 1 to the M1.

On Thursday 18 June and Friday 19 June the M1 northbound carriageway will be closed between junction 19 off slip to the M6, and junction 19 on slip from the A14. At the same time the M1 southbound carriageway will be closed between the M1 to A14 off slip and the M6 on slip at junction 19. The closures are from 9pm until 6am the following morning.

Diversions will be in place and signposted.

M1 junction 24/A50 Approach Economy Scheme

Work to improve the capacity and traffic flows at M1 Junction 24 is nearing completion. There will continue to be traffic management in place around the junction and its approaches at night times.

Customers travelling to and from East Midlands Airport should allow extra time for their journeys during this work, particularly if they have a flight to catch. For real time traffic information visit our website.

The M1 northbound exit slip road will be closed at junction 24 for five nights from Monday 15 June to Friday 19 June between 8pm and 6am the following morning. Northbound traffic wishing to access junction 24 should use junction 23A.

A453 major improvement scheme

The A453 urban section from Crusader roundabout and Farnborough Road opened on 11 June.

Work on the rural section continues, and while there are no closures there will be traffic lights at various locations along Green Street from Monday 15 June to Friday 19 June between 7am and 6pm.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016 there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the Smart Motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures. This week the following full closures will be in place:

On Monday 15 June, the northbound exit slip road at junction 29 will be closed between 8pm and 6am the following morning. At the same time, the northbound entry slip road at junction 31 will also be closed.

On Tuesday 16 June, the following will be closed between 8pm and 6am the following morning:

  • southbound entry slip road at junctions 35 and 35a
  • southbound exit slip road at junction 34
  • northbound up and over northbound at junction 29a
  • northbound entry slip at junction 31
  • southbound entry slip at junction 28

On Wednesday 17 June, the following will be closed between 8pm and 6am the following morning:

  • southbound entry slip road at junctions 35 and 35a
  • southbound exit slip road at junction 34
  • northbound entry slip road at junctions 29 and 31
  • southbound entry slip road junction 28

On Thursday 18 June, the following will be closed between 8pm and 6am the following morning:

  • northbound entry slip road at junctions 34 and 35
  • northbound up and over at junction 29

On Friday 19 June, the southbound entry slip road will be closed at junction 28 from 8pm until 6am the following morning.

On Saturday 20 June the northbound entry slip road will be closed at junction 29a between 8pm and 6am the following morning.

On Sunday 21 June the southbound entry and exit slip roads at junction 29 will be closed between 8pm and 6am the following morning.

M1 junction 21 to 20, Leicestershire: bridge repairs

From Thursday 28 May to 20 August there will be a permanent closure of the hard shoulder with selected lane closures and 50 mph speed restrictions in place during this period.

A1 at Elkesley: resurfacing work

The A1 will be closed northbound from the exit slip road at North Muskham junction, near Newark, to the Apleyhead on slip road, near Retford, from 8pm on Friday June 19 to 6am on Monday June 22.

A14 Kettering, Northamptonshire: widening

One lane of the eastbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 7 and 10 for three nights on 15/16/17 June. The closures will be between 8pm and 6am the following morning.

One lane of the eastbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 3 and 7 overnight on Friday 19 June from 8pm until 6am on Saturday 20 June.

One lane of the westbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 7 and 10 overnight on Sunday 21 June from 8pm until 6am on Monday 22 June.
