Planned roadworks in the East Midlands: Weekly summary for Monday 1 to Sunday 7 June 2015
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 29 May 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M1 junction 15 to 19, Northamptonshire: Smart motorway preparatory work
Until summer 2015, there will be various restrictions in place to allow for the construction of a reinforced concrete barrier in the central reserve. These include speed restrictions, narrow lanes and hard shoulder running.
On Wednesday 3 June there will be an overnight full road closure northbound and southbound from M1 junction 18 to junction 16 and the M45 junction 1 to J17 for installation of Smart Motorway Narrow Lanes.
On Thursday 4 June there is a planned contingency for the same works scheduled above.
M1 junction 24/A50 Approach Economy Scheme
Work to improve the capacity and traffic flows at M1 Junction 24 is nearing completion. There will continue to be traffic management in place around the junction and its approaches at night times. There are no full closures over the next week.
Customers travelling to and from East Midlands Airport should allow extra time for their journeys during this work, particularly if they have a flight to catch. For real time traffic information visit www.highways.gov.uk/traffic.
M1 junction 24 diversions
From Monday 1 June to Friday 5 June the M1 northbound exit slip road will be closed from 8pm to 6am (9pm to 6am on Friday 05 June). During the M1 northbound exit slip road closure, northbound traffic wishing to access junction 24 should use junction 23A.
A453 major improvement scheme
From 30 May to 5 June the northbound link road between south and north bridge of West Leake junction will be closed during the day-time from 6am to 6pm. The diversion route for the closure of the northbound link road will be via the A453 westbound, turn at Parkway junction and return via A453 eastbound.
On Monday 1 June the A453 will have a full closure between M1 junction 24 and Parkway junction from 8pm to 5.30am Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday 2 June the A453 will have a full closure between West Leake junction and Parkway junction from 8pm to 5.30am Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday 3 June the A453 will have a full closure between Mill Hill roundabout and West Leake junction from 8pm to 5.30am. During closures between Mill Hill roundabout and West Leake junction, access to the villages from the A453 will be via Green Street from Mill Hill roundabout.
M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: Smart Motorway
Until winter 2016 there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the Smart Motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures. This week the following full closures will be in place:
From Monday 1 June through to Friday 5 June (8pm to 6am) there will be an up and over diversion at junction 34 on the northbound and southbound carriageways.
On Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 June the northbound entry slip road at junction 29a will be closed each night from 8pm to 6am both mornings.
On Thursday 4 June the southbound entry slip road at junction 29a will be closed from 8pm to 6am Friday morning.
On Tuesday 2 June the northbound entry slip road at junction 31 will be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am Wednesday morning.
On Friday 5 June the southbound entry slip road at junction 30 will be closed from 8pm to 6am Saturday morning.
On Saturday 6 June there will be an up and over diversion on the southbound carriageway at junction 30 from 8pm to 6am Sunday morning.
M1 junction 21 to 20, Leicestershire: Bridge repairs
From Thursday 28 May to 20 August there will be a permanent closure of the hard shoulder with selected lane closures and 50 mph speed restrictions in place during this period.
M1 junction 23 to 23a, Leicestershire: Resurfacing work
On Monday 1 June the northbound carriageway will be closed from 9pm to 6am Tuesday morning.
A1 Beacon Hill Road, Coddington, Nottinghamshire: Construction
There will be a 24/7 closure of the northbound exit slip road until 11 June to allow the construction of a new access road.
A14 Kettering, Northamptonshire: Resurfacing
From Monday 1 to Thursday 4 June the eastbound carriageway will be closed each night from 8pm to 6am; On Friday 5 June the eastbound carriageway will be closed from 8pm to 8am Saturday morning;
On Saturday 6 June the eastbound carriageway will be closed from 8pm to 9am Sunday morning.
A43 from Junction 15a (M1) to Towcester, Northamptonshire: Drainage work
The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am until 9 June for drainage work. Diversions will be clearly signposted.
A52, Spondon, Derby: Electrical repairs
From Monday 1 to Wednesday 3 June the eastbound entry slip road will be closed each night from 9pm to 6am in the morning.
The westbound exit slip road will be closed from Wednesday 3 June to Friday 5 June each night from 9pm to 6am in the morning.
