Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: weekly summary for Monday 9 January to Sunday 15 January 2017
Planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 5 January but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M2 junctions 5 to 6, Sittingbourne, Kent: carriageway strengthening
Work to improve safety by strengthening the carriageway continue this week. There will be a lane 2 closure in both directions, with a hard shoulder running. There will also be a 50mph speed limit in place throughout the period of works and until the completion at the end of March 2017.
M2 Chatham, Kent: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the carriageway begin this week. Lanes 2, 3 and 4 between junctions 2 and 3 will be closed on the eastbound carriageway on Monday 9 January for 5 nights between 8pm and 6am. Works are scheduled to be complete by end of January.
M20 junction 4, Maidstone, Kent: junction improvement
Work by Kent County Council to improve journeys by adding an additional lane to the roundabout continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways underneath the roundabout for the duration of scheme. A lane closure and 30mph speed limit will be in place on the southbound section of the roundabout. Lane 1 of the westbound entry slip will be closed.
There will be a westbound entry slip closure, and lane 2 closure on the eastbound entry slip road on Monday 9 January between 9pm and 5am for 5 nights. Westbound traffic will be diverted to the next junction. There will be a full closure of the eastbound and westbound entry slip roads on Saturday 14 January overnight, between 9pm and 5am. There will be a clearly signed diversion in place via the next motorway junction.

M20 junction 5 to 10, Maidstone to Ashford, Kent: vegetation clearance
Works to improve journeys continue this week between junction 5 and 10. There will be lane 1 closures in both directions on Monday 9 January for 5 nights, between 8pm and 6am.
M20 junctions 3 to 5, Kent: smart motorway surveys
Work to improve journeys commence this week on the M20 between junctions 3 and 5. There will be 2 lanes closed on the westbound carriageway on Monday 9 January for 5 nights, between 8pm and 6am. Surveys are scheduled to be complete in April 2017.
M23 junctions 8 to 10a, South Nutfield to Crawley: smart motorway surveys
Work to improve journeys continue this week on the M23 between junctions 8 and 10a. There will be various lane closures in place in both directions overnight on Monday 9 January for 5 nights, between 8pm and 6am. Surveys are scheduled to be complete in April 2017.
A2 Darenth to Bean, Kent: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys begin this week on the A2. There will be a full closure of the westbound carriageway at the B255 Bean junction on Monday 9 January for 4 nights between 10pm and 6am. There will be a clearly signed diversion route via the exit and entry slip road. There will be lane closures on the entry slip from Bean and on the westbound carriageway of the A2 between Bean and Darenth on Friday 13 January overnight between 10pm and 6am. Works are scheduled to be complete in early March 2017.
A20 Dover, Kent: junction improvement work
Work by the Port of Dover to improve journeys on the A20 continues this week. Phased work continue at the York Street junction and at the Union Street junction. Lane closures remain in place in both directions between the Limekiln and Woolcomber junctions. There will be no right turn facility along the section of the A20 for both eastbound and westbound traffic. Clearly signed diversions will be in place to direct traffic through the works. A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, Kent: major improvement
Work to improve journeys on the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury continues this week. A 40mph speed limit remains in place 24/7 between the Vauxhall interchange and the A228.
Tonbridge Road will remain closed after Pembury Hospital up to and including Longfield Road roundabout until Spring 2017. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A228 and the A21.
