The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 2 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M2 junctions 5 to 6, Sittingbourne, Kent: carriageway strengthening

Work to improve safety by strengthening the carriageway continues this week. There will be a lane 2 closure in both directions, with a hard shoulder running. There will also be a 50mph speed limit in place throughout the period of works and until completion at the end of December.

M20 junction 4, Maidstone, Kent: junction improvement

Work by Kent County Council to improve journeys by adding an additional lane to the roundabout continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways underneath the roundabout for the duration of scheme. A lane closure and 30mph speed limit will be in place on the southbound section of the roundabout. Lane 1 of the westbound entry slip will be closed.

M20 junctions 9 – 13, Ashford to Folkestone, Kent: vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys takes place this week. There will be lane 1 closures in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 5 December for 5 nights. Work is scheduled to be complete by 20 December.

M23 junctions 9 - 11, Crawley, Sussex: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by undertaking resurfacing starts this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 5 December for 7 nights,. A cleary signed diversion will be in place via the M23, A23 and A2011.

M23 junctions 8 – 10a, South Nutfield to Crawley: smart motorway survey

Work to improve journeys by surveying for a smart motorway starts this week. There will be various lane closures in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 5 December for 5 nights. Surveys are scheduled to be complete in April 2017.

A2 Bean, Kent: overhead sign repair

Work takes place this week to improve safety on the A2 between Bean junction and Ebbsfleet junction by undertaking repairs on an overhead matrix. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 5 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Bean Lane and Roman Road.

A2 Dover, Kent: litter clearance

Work by Kent County Council to improve journeys by clearing litter takes place this week on the A2 between the Coxhill Road junction and the Duke Of York’s roundabout. There will be lane 1 closures in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 5 December for 5 nights.

A20 Dover, Kent: junction improvement work

Work by the Port of Dover to improve journeys on the A20 continues this week. Phased work continues at the York Street junction and at the Union Street junction. Lane closures remain in place in both directions between the Limekiln and Woolcomber junctions. There will be no right turn facility along the section of the A20 for both eastbound and westbound traffic.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place to direct traffic through the works.

A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, Kent: major improvement

Work to improve journeys on the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury continues this week. A 40mph speed limit remains in place 24/7 between the Vauxhall interchange and the A228.

Two way traffic lights will be in place on the A21 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Wednesday 7 December for 3 nights.

Tonbridge Road will remain closed after Pembury Hospital up to and including Longfield Road roundabout until Spring 2017. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A228 and the A21.

A23 Patcham, Sussex: lamp column replacement

Work to improve safety by replacing a lamp column on the A27 at Patcham takes place this week. There will be a lane 1 closure on the eastbound exit slip road overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 6 December.

A23 Pyecombe, Sussex: lamp column replacement

Work to improve safety takes place by replacing a lamp column on the A23 at Pyecombe this week. There will be a lane 2 closure in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 7 December.

A26 Beddingham to Newhaven, Sussex: vegetation clearance

Work to improve safety by undertaking vegetation clearance takes place this week. There will be temporary traffic signals in place between Beddingham junction and Newhaven junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 5 December.

A249 Grovehurst, Kent: carriageway repair

Work to improve safety by repairing the carriageway takes place this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed from Friday 9 December at 8pm until Monday 12 December at 5am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Kingsferry roundabout.
