Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: Weekly summary for Monday 3 August to Sunday 9 August 2015
Planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 31 July but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M2 junction 2 Rochester, Kent: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys on the M2 near Rochester by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The coastbound exit and entry slip road at junction 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 3 August for 5 nights. In addition the entry slip road at junction 1 will be closed with two lanes remaining open on the main carriageway between junctions 1 and 2. A 50mph speed limit will be in place in the remaining open lanes.
Fully signed diversions are outlined below:
- road users who wish to join the M2 coastbound at junction 1 will remain on the A289, joining the M2/A2 Londonbound to Cobham where they will exit and then join the coastbound A2/M2 carriageway
- road users wishing to exit the M2 at junction 2 will remain on the M2 to junction 3 and return on the London-bound carriageway to junction 2
- road users wishing to join the M2 coastbound at junction 2 will join the M2 London-bound to Cobham where they will exit and then join the coastbound carriageway
M2 junctions 4 Gillingham to 6 Faversham, Kent: joint and bearing replacement
Work to maintain journeys by undertaking bridge joint and bearing replacement on the M2 between junctions 4 (Gillingham) and 6 (Faversham) will continue this week. Mount Lane and Bottom Pond Road will be closed underneath the motorway 24/7 until September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place for these local roads.
A20 Roundhill Tunnel, Folkestone, Kent: routine maintenance
Work to maintain journeys by carrying out tunnel maintenance will start this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 3 August for 2 nights. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Wednesday 5 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A259 and A260.
A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, Kent: major improvement work
Work to improve journeys on the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury will continue this week and is due to be complete in spring 2017. Temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place between Vauxhall and Longfield overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 3 August for 5 nights.

A27 Arundel, West Sussex: drainage investigation
Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage investigation work at Arundel will continue this week. Temporary traffic lights will be in place between Ford roundabout and Fontwell roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 3 August for 5 nights.
A27 Kingsham, West Sussex: new footbridge construction
Work to improve safety by installing a footbridge at Kingsham on the A27 near Chichester will continue this week. Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 3 August for 5 nights.
In addition, temporary pedestrian traffic lights will be in place on Hunston Road across the A27, east of Whyke roundabout and across Whyke Road in both directions. A temporary 30mph speed limit will be in place between the Bognor roundabout and the Stockbridge roundabout during the same period. Work is due to be complete in August.
A27 Polegate to Pevensey, East Sussex: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the carriageway between Polegate and Pevensey will start this week. A full closure in both directions will be in place on the A27 between Stone Cross roundabout and Pevensey roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 3 August for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A22, A259 and Wallsend Road.
