Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: weekly summary for Monday 24 October to Sunday 30 October 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 21 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M20 junction 4, Maidstone, Kent: junction improvement

Work by Kent County Council to improve journeys by adding an additional lane to the roundabout continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place 24/7 on both carriageways underneath the roundabout for the duration of scheme. A lane closure and 30mph speed limit will be in place on the southbound section of the roundabout. Lane 1 of the westbound entry slip road will be closed for the duration of the work.

M23 junction 9, Gatwick, Sussex: camera renewal

Work to improve journeys by renewing cameras on the M23 begins this week. A lane closure will be in place on the eastbound spur road and on the southbound carriageway prior to junction 9 overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Sunday 30 October.

M23 junctions 9 – 11, Crawley to Gatwick Airport, Sussex: drainage survey

Work to improve journeys on the M23 by maintaining drainage continues this week. Various lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 24 October for 5 nights. Work is expected to be completed by mid-November.

A2 Ebbsfleet, Kent: utility upgrade

Work to provide data services to Ebbsfleet Garden City starts this week. A lane closure will be in place on the entry slip road from the A2260 to the A2 Watling Street from Monday 24 October 24/7 for 7 consecutive days.

A20 Dover, Kent: junction improvement work

Work by the Port of Dover to improve journeys on the A20 continues this week. Phased works continue at the York Street junction and at the Union Street junction. Lane closures will be in place in both directions between the Limekiln and Woolcomber junctions. There will be no right turn facility along the section of the A20 for both eastbound and westbound traffic. Clearly signed diversions will be in place to direct traffic through the works.

In addition, Union Street will be closed on Monday 24 October with no access to the A20. A clearly signed diversion will be in place to Esplanade via Wellesley Road and Marine Parade.

A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, Kent: major improvement

Work to improve journeys on the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury continues this week. A 40mph speed limit remains in place 24/7 between the Vauxhall interchange and the A228.

The London-bound carriageway will be closed between Longfield Roundabout and Vauxhall interchange and the coastbound carriageway will be closed between Quarry Hill and Longfield roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 26 October and Saturday 29 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A26, A2014, A26 and A228.

In addition, a lane will be closed on the London-bound carriageway between Kippings Cross and Pembury interchange overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 26 October.

Tonbridge Road will remain closed after Pembury Hospital up to and including Longfield Road roundabout until Spring 2017. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A228 and the A21.

A27 Fontwell, West Sussex: lighting

Work to improve journeys by replacing lighting begins this week. There will be a lane closure in both directions between Denmans Lane and Yapton Lane overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Wednesday 26 October for 2 nights.

A27 Polegate, East Sussex: lighting

Work to improve journeys by replacing lighting begins this week. There will be temporary traffic signals in place between Cophall roundabout and the A2270 Eastbourne Road overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Friday 28 October.

A27 Falmer, East Sussex: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing continues this week between Coldean junction and Falmer interchange. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Wednesday 26 October for 4 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A27, A26, A259 and A23.
