Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: Weekly summary for Monday 23 February – Sunday 1 March 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 20 February but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M2 junctions 2 to 1, Strood, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing

The London-bound entry slip road will be closed overnight at Three Crutches from Monday 23 February for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Three Crutches Roundabout, Watling Street, Gravesend Road, Gadds Hill Interchange and the A289.

The London-bound entry slip road from the Three Crutches Roundabout to join the A2 will be closed overnight from Wednesday 25 February for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2.

The coastbound carriageway will be closed overnight on Friday 27 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A289, A228, A289, A2 and the A278.

All work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am. Work is due to finish on Sunday 1 March.

M2 junctions 2 to 4, Rochester, Kent: White lining and stud replacement

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 February for seven nights.

M2 junction 5, Medway, Kent: Carriageway investigation

A lane closure will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 23 February..

M20 junction 10, Ashford, Kent: Traffic signal maintenance

Lane closures will remain in place on the approach to the roundabout at junction 10 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 March. During this time the signals will remain off 24/7. Pedestrian crossings will also be closed with pedestrians following alternative suitable routes.

M20 junctions 3 to 13, Kent: White lining and stud replacement and carriageway investigation

Various lane closures will be in place on the coastbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 11 and on the London-bound carriageway between junctions 13 and 3 overnight, between 8pm and 6am until the end of March.

A2 Brewers Lane, Cobham, Kent: Footpath and cycleway reconstruction

The existing footpath / cycleway will continue to be closed along with a hardshoulder closure on the main carriageway between Shorne and Cobham on the coastbound carriageway.

There will also be two way traffic signals on Brewers Road. All work will be carried out between 8am and 5pm (Monday to Friday).

Work is due to finish at the end of March.

A2 Jubilee Way, Dover, Kent: Lighting replacement

One lane will continue to be closed on the London-bound carriageway between the Port of Dover and Guston roundabouts overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until the end of March. One lane will also be closed on the Guston Roundabout during this time.

The coastbound carriageway between Guston Roundabout and the Port of Dover will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 25 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A256 and the A20.

A21 Sevenoaks Bypass, Kent: Central reservation replacement

The London-bound carriageway between Morleys Roundabout and the A21/A25 junction for Westerham will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until the end of February. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A225, A224 and the A25. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit remain on the coastbound carriageway 24/7.

A23 Bolney to Handcross, West Sussex: Improvement work

Lane closures will be in place on the London-bound carriageway from Monday 23 February between Bolney junction and Handcross Bridge. Work will be in place between 8pm and 6am, weeknights only until the end of March.

A23 South Downs to B2116 Southbound, West Sussex: Pavement investigation

Lane closures will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 25 February.

A23 Pease Pottage to Handcross, West Sussex: Pavement investigation

Lane closures will be in place, between 8pm and 6am, on Friday 28 February.

A23 Bolney to Sayers Common, West Sussex: Drainage investigation

Two way traffic lights will be in place on the service road overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 February for four nights

A259 Guestling, East Sussex: Resurfacing

A lane closure and temporary traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 9am and 3pm, until the middle of March (Monday to Friday).

A259 Winchelsea to Rye, East Sussex: Drainage investigation

Temporary traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 February for two nights.

A259 Icklesham to Winchelsea, East Sussex: Drainage investigation

Temporary traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Wednesday 25 February for two nights

A27 Crossbush, West Sussex: Resurfacing work

The eastbound carriageway will closed between Crossbush and Patching interchange overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A280, A259 and A284.

A27 Fontwell, West Sussex: Lighting renewal

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm to 6am, (Monday to Friday) until the end of March.

A27 Southwick Tunnel, West Sussex: Passage door replacement

The eastboundtunnel will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, weekday nights only, from Monday 23 February for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A270 and the A293.

A27 Kingsham, West Sussex: New footbridge construction

Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will remain in place 24/7 until mid July.

A27 Lewes East, West Sussex: Drainage

A lane closure will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until mid-April.

A27 Fishbourne to Crossbush, West Sussex: Road marking and stud replacement

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 24 February to Tuesday 3 March.

A27 Housedean, East Sussex: Pavement investigation

Lane closures with occasional stationary traffic for ten minutes will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 24 February.

A27 Pevensey Haven Roundabout, East Sussex: Drainage investigation

Multi phased traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 February for four nights.

Safety at roadworks

The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads.For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

  • Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.

  • Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.

  • Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.

  • Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.

  • Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.

  • Observe all signs – they are there to help you.
