Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: weekly summary for Monday 14 November to Sunday 20 November 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 11 November but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M2 junction 3, Chatham, Kent: signal repairs

Work to improve journeys by carrying out essential signal repairs take place this week. Lane one on the westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 14 November.

M2 junctions 5 to 6, Sittingbourne, Kent: carriageway strengthening

Work to improve safety by strengthening the carriageway start this week. The M2 will be closed in both directions between junctions 5 and 6 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Friday 18 November for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A249 and A2.

From 6am on Sunday 20 November there will be narrow lanes and a 50 mph speed limit in place until the end of December.

M20 junctions 4 to 9, Kent: motorway improvement work

Work to improve journeys by undertaking vegetation clearance, gully clearance, litter picking and road sweeping will take place this week.

The outside lane will be closed in both directions on the junction 8 spur road from the A20 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 14 November.

The eastbound entry slip road at junction 4 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 15 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M26 junction 2a.

The eastbound distributor road will be closed between junctions 5 and 6 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 16 November. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via junction 4 and 7.

The eastbound entry slip road at junction 5 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Thursday 17 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4.

The westbound entry slip road at junction 5 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Friday 18 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6.

M20 junction 4, Maidstone, Kent: junction improvement

Work by Kent County Council to improve journeys by adding an additional lane to the roundabout continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways underneath the roundabout for the duration of scheme. A lane closure and 30mph speed limit will be in place on the southbound section of the roundabout. Lane 1 of the westbound entry slip will be closed.

M20 junction 6, Maidstone, Kent: signal repairs

Work to improve journeys by carrying out essential matrix signal repairs take place this week. There will be a lane 1 closure on the westbound entry slip road at junction 6 on Wednesday 16 November, between 8pm and 6am.

M23 junctions 11 – 9, Crawley to Gatwick Airport, Sussex: drainage survey

Work to maintain the M23 by improving drainage continues this week. Various lane closures will be implemented in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 14 November for 2 nights.

M23 junction 10a, Crawley, Sussex: matrix signal repair

Work to improve journeys by ucarrying out essential matrix signal repairs take place this week. There will be a lane 1 closure on the northbound carriageway at junction 10a on Tuesday 15 November, between 9pm and 6am.

A20 Dover, Kent: junction improvement work

Work by the Port of Dover to improve journeys on the A20 continues this week. Phased work continue at the York Street junction and at the Union Street junction. Lane closures remain in place in both directions between the Limekilkn and Wollcomber junctions. There will be no right turn facility along the section of the A20 for both eastbound and westbound traffic. Clearly signed diversions will be in place to direct traffic through the work.

The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5am, from Thursday 17 November for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2011, A256 and A2.

A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, Kent: major improvement

Work to improve journeys on the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury continues this week. A 40mph speed limit remains in place 24/7 between the Vauxhall interchange and the A228. Tonbridge Road remains closed after Pembury Hospital up to and including Longfield Road roundabout until Spring 2017. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A228 and the A21.

Two way traffic lights will be in place on the A21 and on the coastbound entry slip road at Vauxhall overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 14 November for five nights and finishes at 6am on Saturday morning.

A27 Hangleton to Ashcombe, Sussex: vegetation clearance

Work to improve safety by undertaking vegetation clearance take place this week. A lane one closure will be in place on the eastbound carriageway between the Southwick Tunnel and Foredown Road overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 14 November. The eastbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed at the A293 Hangleton junction overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 15 November. The eastbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed at the Devils Dyke Road junction overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 16 November. The westbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed at the Patcham junction overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Thursday 17 November. Lane one will be closed on the eastbound carriageway between Braeside overbridge and the Hollinbury junction near Hangleton overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Friday 18 November.

A27 Chichester, Sussex: carriageway repairs

Work to improve journeys on the A27 begin this week. A lane one closure will be in place between Bognor Road and A285 Portfield junction overnight, between 8pm and 6am, (Monday to Friday) from Monday 14 November. Work is expected to be completed by early December.

A27 Portslade, Brighton: Tunnel Maintenance

Work to improve journeys by undertaking routine tunnel maintenance takes place this week. The Southwick tunnel will be closed in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Friday 18 November for two nights. A clearly signed signed diversion will be in place via the A270 and A293.

A259, Bexhill On-Sea, Sussex: carriageway improvements

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the carriageway continue this week. There will be temporary traffic signals in place between Little Common Road roundabout and the junction with Broadoak Lane overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 14 November for 5 nights. Work is expected to be completed by early December.

A259, Winchelsea Road, Rye: tree removal

Work to improve safety by removing a dangerous tree adjacent to the A259 will take place this week. Lane closures and temporary traffic lights will be in place between the Friars Hill and Chapel Lane junctions between 9.30am and 4pm from Monday 14 November for 5 days General enquiries
