Planned roadworks in East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 7 December to Sunday 13 December 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 4 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: road improvement scheme

On Tuesday 8 December and Wednesday 9 December the will A14 westbound from junction 2 to the Catthorpe junction will be closed for overnight work between 9pm and 6am each night.

The diversion will take A14 to M1 northbound traffic onto the A45 at junction 13 and head south to join the M1 at junction 15.

On Thursday 10 December overnight work will have closures of the following from 9pm to 6am.

  • A14 to M6 link road westbound
  • M1 to M6 link road northbound
  • M6 southbound from junction 1

A14 to M6 traffic will be diverted onto the M1 northbound carriageway. Traffic will exit the M1 at junction 20 and head south on the A426 to join the M6 at junction 1.

M1 to M6 northbound traffic will continue on the M1 to junction 20 and head south on the A426 to join the M6 at junction 1.

M6 southbound traffic will exit at junction 1 and head north on the A426 to Gibbet Hill roundabout, then the M1 southbound traffic will turn right and head south on the A5 to join the M1 at junction 18. A14 traffic will continue up the A426 to M1 junction 20, head south to junction 19 and join the A14 eastbound.

On Friday 11, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December there will be closures from 9pm to 6am each night over the weekend on the following:

  • A14 westbound from junction 2 to Catthorpe junction
  • M1 northbound at junction 19
  • westbound carriageway through the dumbbells

A14 to M1 northbound traffic will be diverted onto the A45 at junction 13 and head south to join the M1 at junction 15.

M1 northbound traffic will be diverted up the M6 to junction 1, then head north up the A426 to re-join the M1 at junction 20.

M1 junction 19 to 16, Northamptonshire: smart motorway

On Wednesday 9 December the M1 northbound junction 16 to 18 will be closed overnight, including the M45 entry slip road between 9pm and 6am.

M1 northbound traffic will be diverted onto the A45 towards Flore at junction 16. Traffic will follow the A45 to the cross roads with the A5. Traffic will turn right at the traffic lights, following the A5 to re-join the M1 northbound at junction 18.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures.

This week, the following closures will be in place:

On Monday 7 December:

  • M1 junction 30 northbound entry slip road will be closed
  • M1 junction 30 southbound exit slip road closed
  • M1 junction 29 southbound exit slip road closed
  • M1 junction 29 southbound entry slip road will be closed

On Tuesday 8 December:

  • M1 junction 31 northbound exit slip road closed
  • M1 junction 31 northbound entry slip road closed
  • M1 junction 29 southbound exit slip road closed
  • M1 junction 29 southbound entry slip road will be closed

On Wednesday 9 December:

  • M1 junction 31 southbound exit slip road closed
  • M1 junction 31 southbound entry slip road closed
  • M1 southbound Woodall Services closed
  • M1 junction 29 southbound exit slip road closed
  • M1 junction 29 southbound entry slip road closed

On Thursday 10 December:

  • M1 junction 29 northbound exit slip road closed
  • M1 junction 29 northbound entry slip road closed
  • M18 southbound to M1 northbound link road will be closed

On Friday 11 December:

  • M1 junction 29 northbound exit slip road will be closed
  • M1 junction 29 northbound entry slip road closed
  • M18 southbound to M1 northbound link will be closed.

On Saturday 12 December:

  • M1 junction 29a southbound exit slip road will be closed
  • M1 J29a southbound entry slip road closed
  • M18 southbound to M1 northbound link will be closed

On Sunday 13 December:

  • M1 junction 29a southbound exit slip road will be closed
  • M1 J29a southbound entry slip road will be closed
