Planned roadworks in East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 5 October to Sunday 11 October 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 25 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 16 to 19, Northamptonshire: smart motorways preparatory work

There will be various restrictions in place to allow for the smart motorway preparatory work to be undertaken. These include speed restrictions, narrow lanes and hard shoulder running. On the Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 October there will be a full closure of junction 20 to 18 southbound between 9pm and 6am each night. M1 southbound traffic will be diverted onto the A4303 at junction 20.

Traffic will follow the A4303 to the roundabout with the A5. Traffic will turn left at the roundabout, following the A5 to re-join the M1 southbound at junction 18. On Wednesday 7, Thursday 8 and Friday 9 October there will be a full closure of junction 18 to 16 southbound between 9pm and 6am each night. M1 southbound traffic will be diverted onto the A5 Southbound at junction 18. Traffic will follow the A5 to the cross roads with the A45 at Flore. Traffic will turn left at the traffic lights, following the A45 to re-join the M1 southbound at junction 16.

M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: road improvement scheme

On Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 October the M1 southbound will be closed at junction 19 between 9pm and 6am each night. M1 south bound traffic will be diverted off the M1 at junction 20. Traffic will head south on the A426 to Gibbet hill roundabout then head south on the A5 and re-join the M1 at junction 18. On Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 October the M6 southbound will be closed at junction 1 between 9pm and 6am each night. M6 southbound traffic will exit at junction 1, head north on the A426 to gibbet hill roundabout then the M1 southbound traffic will turn right and head south on the A5 and re-join the M1 at junction 18.

A14 traffic will continue up the A426 to M1 junction 20, head south to junction 19 and join the A14 east bound. On Friday 9 October there will be an A14 westbound closure between junction 2 and Catthorpe junction between 9pm and 6am. A14 to M1 northbound traffic will be diverted on to the A45 at junction 13 and head south to re-join the M1 at junction 15.

On Friday 9 October the M6 southbound off slip closed to Dumbbells between 9pm and 6am. M6 to A14 traffic will be diverted off the M6 at junction 1, head north up the A426 to junction 20 on the M1, then south and off at junction 19.

On Saturday 10 October the M1 to M6 northbound link will be closed from 9pm and 6am. The M6 northbound entry slip will also be closed. M6 traffic will be diverted onto the M1 northbound carriageway. Traffic will exit the M1 at junction 20 onto the A4303. Traffic will follow the A4303 to the A5 and then head south along the A5 to the roundabout with the A426. Traffic will follow the A426 to junction 1 of the M6.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures.

This week, the following full closures will be in place:

  • Monday 5 October: junction 28 northbound exit slip road
  • Tuesday 6 October: junction 28 northbound exit slip road, junction 30 southbound exit slip road, and junction 30 southbound entry slip road
  • Wednesday 7 October: junction 28 northbound exit slip road, junction 29a southbound exit slip road, junction 34 southbound there will be an up and over, junction 34 southbound entry slip road, and junction 33 southbound exit slip road closure
  • Thursday 8 October: junction 28 northbound exit slip road, junction 34 northbound an up and over, junction 34 northbound exit slip, and junction 33 northbound entry slip road closure
  • Friday 9 October: junction 28 northbound exit slip road, junction 33 southbound entry slip, and junction 32 southbound the exit slip will be closed.
  • Saturday 10 October: M18 southbound to M1 northbound link closed and junction 33 northbound the exit slip road will be closed.

A14 Catthorpe to junction 1, Northamptonshire: drainage works

From Monday 5 to Friday 9 October there will be 24/7 lay-by, carriageway and slip road closures westbound between 8pm and 6am each night. Diversion routes will be signposted.

A14 junction 2 to 7, Northamptonshire: drainage works

From Wednesday 7 Saturday 10 October (am) there will be 24/7, carriageway and slip road closures westbound between 8pm and 6am each night. Diversion route will be signposted.

A38 Markeaton, Derbyshire: Derby half day marathon

The exit slip road northbound will be closed between 8.45am to 12.45pm due to the Derby Half Marathon.

A42 junction 12, Leicestershire: communications work

On Tuesday 6 to Wednesday 7 October the exit slip road northbound will be closed between 8pm and 6am.
