The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 2 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures.

On Monday 5 December, the northbound entry slip road at junction 34 and the northbound exit slip roads at junctions 35 and 35a will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am.

On Tuesday 6 December, the southbound carriageway from junction 36 to 34 closed will be overnight from 8pm until 6am. The northbound entry slip road at junction 33, the southbound entry slip roads at junctions 35, 35a and 36 and the M18 southbound to the northbound M1 link will be closed at the same time.

On Wednesday 7 December, the southbound carriageway from junction 36 to 34 closed will be overnight from 8pm until 6am. The southbound exit slip road at junction 33, the southbound entry slip roads at junctions 35, 35a and 36 and the M18 southbound to the northbound M1 link will be closed at the same time.

On Thursday 8 December, the southbound exit slip roads at junctions 29a and 33 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am. The northbound exit slip road at junction 34 will be closed at the same time.

On Friday 9 December, the southbound entry and exit slip roads at junctions 29a, the southbound entry slip road at junction 34 and the northbound exit slip road at junction 34 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am. The M18 southbound to the northbound M1 link will be closed at the same time.

On Saturday 10 December, the northbound exit slip road at junction 34 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am.

On Sunday 11 December, the northbound exit slip road at junction 34 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am.

Day time works are expected between junctions 31 and 32 on the north and southbound M1 from 6am Saturday 10 December until 6am Monday 11 December. One lane will be open until 6am and then two lanes during the day.

M1 junction 19 to 16, Northamptonshire: smart motorway

From Monday 5 December to Friday 9 December, the north and southbound carriageway will have two lanes closed between junctions 16 and 19 from 9pm to 6am.

On Saturday 10 December, the north and southbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 16 and 18 from 9pm to 6am. In addition the M45 as well as the north and southbound on and off slips at Watford Gap services will be closed at the same time.

M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: road improvement scheme

In all cases diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

On Monday 5 December and Tuesday 6 December, the M1 northbound from junction 18 to junction 19 and lanes 1 and 2 of the M6 northbound will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am. Lane 1 of the A14 westbound will also be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am.

On Wednesday 7 December and Thursday 8 December, the M1 northbound from junction 18 to junction 19 and the M1 southbound from junction 20 to junction 19 will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am. There will also be closures of lanes 1 and 2 of the M6 northbound between 9pm and 6am on the night of 7 December, lanes 1 and 2 of the M6 southbound between 9pm and 6am on the night of 8 December and lane 1 of the A14 westbound between 8pm and 6am on both nights.

On Friday 9 December, the M1 southbound from junction 20 to junction 19, the M1 northbound from junction 19 to junction 20 and lanes 1 and 2 of the M6 southbound will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am. Lane 1 of the A14 westbound will also be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am.
