Planned roadworks in East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 18 to Sunday 24 April 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 14 April but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 32 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 32 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures.

  • Monday 18 April, the southbound entry slip road at junction 1 of the M18 and the northbound entry slip road at junction 30 of the M1 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am
  • Tuesday 19 April, the southbound entry and exit slip roads at Woodall Motorway Service Areas will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am
  • Wednesday 20 April, the M18 southbound to M1 southbound link road will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am
  • Thursday 21 April, the northbound entry slip road at junction 34 and the southbound exit slip road at junction 31 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am
  • Friday 22 April, the northbound entry slip road at junction 35, the southbound exit slip road and the northbound entry slip road at junction 31, and the southbound entry slip road at junction 29a will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am
  • Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 April, the southbound exit slip road at junction 31 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am

M1 junction 19 to 16, Northamptonshire: smart motorway

On Monday 18 April, the southbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 16 and 18 overnight from 9pm until 6am. The Watford Gap services entrance and exit slip road, the M45 and junction 18 entry slip road will also be closed during this time. Diversions will be clearly signposted.

M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: road improvement scheme

The M6 southbound will be closed from junction 1 overnight from 9pm until 6am on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 April (the entry slip road southbound will remain open for A14 traffic). The M1 southbound will also be closed from junction 20 and the M1 northbound will be closed from junction 18.

Diversion routes: M6 southbound traffic will exit at junction 1, head north east up the A426 and join the M1 at junction 20.

M1 southbound traffic will exit at junction 20, head south west down the A426, then travel south on the A5 to rejoin the M1 at junction 18.

M1 northbound traffic will exit at junction 18 and head north up the A5 to Gibbet Hill roundabout, then M6 bound traffic will travel south west on the A426 to join the M6 at junction 1, while M1 bound traffic will travel north east up the A426 to rejoin the M1 at junction 20.

A45 – Wilby Way to Skew Bridge, Northamptonshire: carriageway repairs

The eastbound carriageway from junction 14 to Skew Bridge roundabout will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am on Monday 18 April and Tuesday 19 April. The westbound carriageway from Skew Bridge roundabout to Wilby Way roundabout will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am from Wednesday 20 April until Friday 22 April. Diversions will be clearly signposted.

A46 Cossington to Widmerpool, Leicestershire: carriageway resurfacing

The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am on Thursday 21 April and Friday 22 April. The Sixhills entry and exit slip roads will be closed every night between 8pm and 6am from Monday 18 April until Friday 22 April. Diversions will be clearly signposted.
