Planned roadworks in East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 16 to Sunday 22 November 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 12 November but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: road improvement scheme

On Saturday 21 November, the M1 northbound will be closed overnight at junction 18 between 9pm and 6am Sunday morning.

M1 northbound traffic will be diverted off at junction 18 and head north up the A5 to Gibbett Hill roundabout. Traffic wishing to re-join the M1 north will turn right onto the A426 and re-join the M1 at junction 20. Traffic heading for the M6 will turn left onto the A426 and join the M6 at junction 1.

On Friday 20 November the M1 northbound will be closed at junction 19 overnight from 9pm to 6am Saturday. The same closure will apply on Sunday 22 November from 9pm to 6am Monday.

For each night’s closure M1 northbound traffic will be diverted to take the M6 to junction 1, head north on the A426 and re-join the M1 at junction 20.

The M1 southbound at junction 19 will be closed each night starting Friday 20 November from 9pm to 6am. This closure will apply on Saturday night, Sunday night and Monday night all from 9pm to 6am.

M1 southbound traffic will be diverted off at junction 20, head south down the A426 to M6 junction 1 and then head east to re-join the M1.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures.

This week, the following full closures will be in place:

  • on Monday 16 November, the M1 junction 29 southbound entry slip road will be closed
  • M1 Woodall Services southbound exit and entry will be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
  • on Wednesday 18 November, M1 junction 28 northbound exit slip road will be closed; and the M1 junction 28 southbound entry slip will be closed
  • on Thursday 19 November, the M1 junction 28 southbound entry slip road will be closed
  • on Friday 20 November, the M1 junction 28 southbound exit slip road will be closed, and the M1 junction 28 southbound entry slip road will be closed

Delays expected on the M1 northbound junction 28 and 29 on Friday 20 November at 6am to Saturday 21 November 10am. One lane will be open until 10am then 2 lanes open during the day.

A5 Gibbet Hill to Magna Park, Leicestershire/Warwickshire: survey work

From Monday 16 November to Friday 20 November there will be a northbound and southbound carriageway closure from 8pm to 6am each night.
