Planned roadworks in East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 15 August to Sunday 21 August 2016

The following summary of planned new and on-going road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 13 May but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures.

On Monday 15 August, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:

  • the junction 34 up and over on the southbound carriageway.
  • the southbound entry slip road at junction 35a.

On Tuesday 16 August, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:

  • the northbound entry slip road at junction 33.
  • the southbound up and over at junction 33.

On Wednesday 17 August, the southbound exit slip road will be closed at junction 34.

On Thursday 18 August, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:

  • the northbound entry slip road will be closed at junction 34.
  • the southbound entry slip road at junction 35a.

On Friday 19 August, the northbound exit slip road will be closed at junction 35 between 8pm and 6am

M1 junction 19 to 16, Northamptonshire: smart motorway

The northbound carriageway will have two lanes closed from 15 to 19 August between junction 18 and junction 16. The entry slip at junction 16 will also be closed overnight from 9pm from 15 to 19 August. The Watford Gap services exit and entry slip roads will also be closed on 20 August. The southbound carriageway will also have closures to lanes one and two between junction 18 and junction 16 from 15 to 19 August.

M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: road improvement scheme

The A14 westbound will be closed from junction 2 to Catthorpe junction; the A14 eastbound from Catthorpe junction to junction 1 and the M1 southbound from junction 20. The A14 closures will be in place overnight from 8pm until 6am and from 9pm to 6am on the M1. The work is taking place from 15 to 17 August.

Diversion routes: A14 westbound traffic will exit at junction 13 and head south-west on the A45 to join the M1 northbound at junction 15.

A14 eastbound traffic will continue south on the M1 to junction 15, then head north-east up the A45 and join the A14 at junction 13.

M1 southbound traffic will exit at junction 20, head south-west down the A426 to M6 junction 1, then travel east to re-join the M1 southbound at junction 19.

On the evening of 18 and 19 August, the A14 westbound will also be closed from junction 2 to the Catthorpe junction.

Diversion routes

A14 westbound traffic will exit at junction 13 and head south-west on the A45 to join the M1northbound at junction 15.

A43 Abthorpe, Northamptonshire: carriageway repairs

The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight on 15 August between 8pm and 6am. Diversions will be clearly signposted.
