Planned roadworks in East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 11 July to Sunday 17 July 2016

Media wanting information about Highways England’s routine maintenance projects should, in the first instance, check our website.The following summary of planned new and on-going road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 8 July but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures.

On Monday 11 July, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:

  • northbound to M18 Link closed
  • M18 southbound to M1 southbound link closed
  • northbound junction 35 and northbound exit slip road

On Tuesday 12 July, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:

  • northbound entry slip road at junction 34

On Wednesday 13 July, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:

  • northbound exit slip road at junction 35

On Thursday 14 July, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:

  • northbound exit slip road at junction 35

On Friday 15 July, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:

  • southbound entry slip road at junction 35a

M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: improvement works

The M1 southbound from junction 20 and the M1 to M6 northbound link road will be closed overnight from 11 July to 16 July. The roads will be closed between 9pm and 6am

The following diversions will be in place: M1 southbound traffic will exit at junction 20, head south-west down to the A426 to M6 junction 1, then travel east to rejoin the M1 at junction 19.

M1 to M6 northbound traffic will continue north up the M1 to junction 20, head south-west down the A426 and join the M6 at junction 1.
