Planned roadworks in East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 26 October to Sunday 01 November 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 23 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

M1 junction 16 to 19, Northamptonshire: smart motorways preparatory work

There will be various restrictions in place to allow for the smart motorway preparatory work to be undertaken. These include speed restrictions, narrow lanes and hard shoulder running.

On Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 October the M1 northbound junction 18 to junction 20 will have a full closure. On Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 October the M1 northbound junction 16 to junction 18 will have a full closure, including M45 entry slip road.

Diversion routes are as follows:

M1 junction 16 to 18 closure: northbound traffic

M1 northbound traffic will be diverted onto the A45 towards Flore at junction 16. Traffic will follow the A45 to the cross roads with the A5. Traffic will turn right at the traffic lights, following the A5 to re-join the M1 northbound at junction 18.

M1 junction 16 to 18 closure: southbound traffic

M1 southbound traffic will be diverted onto the A5 Southbound at junction 18. Traffic will follow the A5 to the cross roads with the A45 at Flore. Traffic will turn left at the traffic lights, following the A45 to re-join the M1 southbound at junction 16.

M1 junction 18 to 20 closure: northbound traffic

M1 northbound traffic will be diverted onto the A5 at junction 18. Traffic will follow the A5 to the roundabout of the A4303. Traffic will turn right at the roundabout, following the A4303 to re-join the M1 northbound at junction 20.

M1 junction 18 to 20 closure: southbound traffic

M1 southbound traffic will be diverted onto the A4303 at junction 20. Traffic will follow the A4303 to the roundabout with the A5. Traffic will turn left at the roundabout, following the A5 to re-join the M1 southbound at junction 18.

M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: road improvement scheme

On Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 October, the M1 northbound carriageway will be closed between junction 19 exit slip road to the M6 and junction 19 entry slip road from the A14 from 9pm to 6am each night. At the same time the M1 southbound carriageway will be closed between the M1 to A14 exit slip road and the M6 entry slip road at junction 19.

M1 northbound traffic will be diverted off the M1 at junction 19 onto the M6. Traffic will exit the M6 at junction 1 and head north on the A426 to the A5. Traffic will turn left and head north on the A5. Traffic will head north on the A5 to the roundabout with the A4303. Traffic will turn right onto the A4303 where it will re-join the M1 at junction 20.

M1 southbound traffic will be diverted off the M1 at junction 20. Traffic will head down the A426 to junction 1 on the M6, then head south to re-join the M1. The M1 southbound exit slip road will remain open and M1 to A14 traffic will be unaffected. A14 to M1 northbound traffic will also be unaffected.

From Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 October the M1 southbound carriageway will be closed between the M1 to A14 exit slip road and the M6 entry slip road at junction 19. M1 southbound traffic will be diverted off the M1 at junction 20. Traffic will head down the A426 to junction 1 on the M6, then head south to re-join the M1.

The M1 southbound exit slip road will remain open and M1 to A14 traffic will be unaffected. A14 to M1 northbound traffic will also be unaffected.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures. This week, the following full closures will be in place:

  • Monday 12 October – junction 28 northbound entry slip and the Tibshelf northbound and southbound exit slip roads will be closed 8pm to 6am
  • Tuesday 13 October – junction 28 northbound entry slip and Tibshelf northbound and southbound exit slip roads will all be closed from 8pm to 6am
  • Wednesday 14 October – junction 28 northbound entry slip and Tibshelf northbound and southbound exit slip will all be closed from 8pm to 6am
  • Thursday 15 October – junction 28 southbound exit slip will be closed and the Tibshelf northbound exit slip will be closed from 8pm to 6am
  • Friday 16 October – junction 28 southbound exit slip will be closed and the Tibshelf southbound exit slip will be closed from 8pm to 6am

A1 Winthorpe to Long Bennington, Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire: communications work

On Tuesday 27 October there will be a southbound lay by closure from 2pm which will be followed by a full southbound carriageway closure from 9pm to 6am Wednesday morning. Diversions will be signposted.

A14 junction 7 to 3, Northamptonshire: carriageway repairs

From Friday 30 October to Sunday 8 November there will be 24/7 lay by closures of the westbound and carriageway closures. At the A14 junction 7, westbound A14 traffic will be diverted onto the A43 then A6003 towards Corby where it will be directed onto the A427 to Market Harborough and then southbound onto the A6 to rejoin the westbound A14 at junction 3.

A52 Nottingham Knight to A453 Wilford, Nottinghamshire: carriageway repair

On Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 October there will be a westbound carriageway closure from 8pm to 5am each night. Diversion will be signposted.
