Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 9 November to Sunday 15 November 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 6 November but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 including the junction 3 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 10 November for 5 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 10pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322 and A30 to M25 junction 13.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures are in place on the approaches and around the roundabout.

M3 junctions 6 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: bridge waterproofing

Work to improve safety by replacing the bridge’s waterproof surface and expansion joints begins this week. Narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit will be in place in both directions between junctions 6 and 9 until mid-December.

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing communications technology continues this week. The southbound link road between the M3 and eastbound M27 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 9 November for 10 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M27 junction 2.

M4 junction 5 Slough, Berkshire: drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys to the drainage system takes place this week. 2 lanes of the westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 9 November for 5 nights.

M4 junctions 13 Chieveley to 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: drainage maintenance

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by replacing sections of the drainage system near Chieveley continues this week. Sections of the hard shoulder on both carriageways will be closed 24/7 and lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 20 November (Monday to Friday only).

In addition, there will be a lane closure on the roundabout at junction 13 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 11 November for 3 nights.

M4 junction 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: structure survey

Work to ensure road user safety by carrying out surveys to the bridge structure takes place this week. A lane on the roundabout beneath the motorway and on all slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 9 November for 2 nights.

M27 junction 3 Nursling, Hampshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journeys and reduce congestion continues this week. The M271 southbound (between the A3057 Romsey Road roundabout and junction 3 of the M27), and the M271 northbound (between M271 junction 1 and M27 junction 3) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 4am, from Monday 9 November for 10 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2.

A3(M) junctions 3 Hulbert Road to 4 Purbrook Way, Hampshire: slip road marking

Work to improve road user safety takes place this week by renewing the white lining on slip roads along the A3(M). The junction 3 southbound exit slip road and junction 4 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 9 November for 5 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via junction 5 and the B2150.

A31 Hampshire and Dorset: slip road vegetation maintenance

Work to improve road user safety by managing vegetation in Hampshire and Dorset takes place this week. The following slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, as follows:

  • Monday 9 November: the West Moors westbound exit and entry slip roads
  • Tuesday 10 November: the West Moors eastbound exit and entry slip roads
  • Tuesday 10 November: the Poulner Hill eastbound exit and entry slip roads

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

A34 Bullington Cross, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by resurfacing the A30 link continues this week. The northern section of the junction (the A30 link) will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 13 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A303 Micheldever and A34 Three Maids Hill junctions.

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016.

A34 Chieveley, West Berkshire to Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire: surveying

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys to the drainage system, verges and carriageway surface continues this week. Varied lane closures on both carriageways will be in place overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 13 November. In addition, the following slip roads will be closed overnight with clearly signed diversions via the next available junction:

  • on Monday 9 November: West Ilsley southbound exit and entry slip roads, and the Milton Interchange southbound entry slip road
  • from Monday 9 November for 2 nights: Abingdon northbound entry slip road, Hinksey Hill northbound exit and entry slip roads, and South Hinksey and North Hinksey slip roads
  • from Thursday 12 November for 2 nights: Hinksey Hill southbound exit and entry slip roads, and Abingdon southbound exit slip road

A303 Andover, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by resurfacing the A303 westbound carriageway continues this week. The westbound carriageway between the A3093 Picket Twenty and A343 Monxton junctions will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 12 November for 3 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Andover ring-road (A3093 and A343).

A404(M) junction 9b Maidenhead, Berkshire: drainage maintenance

Work to ensure safety and improve journeys by maintaining the drainage system near the junction takes place this week. Lane 2 of both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 12 November for 2 nights.
