Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 7 to Sunday 13 November 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 4 November but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times by converting the M3 into a smart motorway continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4 including the M25 clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound and junction 3 exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 7 November for 4 nights and between 8pm and 7am from Friday 11 November for 2 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the, A30 and A331.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 including junction 3 entry slip road and the clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads from the M3 junction 2 northbound to the M25 junction 12 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 7 November for 4 nights and between 8pm and 7am from Friday 11 November for 2 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A322, A30 and M25.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out maintenance to the safety barrier starts this week. Lane 1 of the southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 November for 2 weeks (Monday to Friday).

M4 junction 7 Maidenhead, Berkshire: lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing damaged parts on selected lighting columns takes place this week. The eastbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 9 November. In addition, the westbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 10 November.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

M4 junction 8/9 Maidenhead, Berkshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound approaches and at the junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 11 November.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to refurbish the bridge which carries the link roads over the M4 continues this week. 24 hour, narrow lane running and a 40mph speed restriction is in place on the slip roads, and a 50mph speed limit is in place on the M4 carriageway until November 2017.

The exit slip road from the M4 eastbound carriageway to the A329(M) Wokingham-bound carriageway will be closed from 9pm on Friday 11 November through to 6am on Monday 14 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8/9 and return.

M4 junction 12 Theale, West Berkshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage surveys takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both the east and westbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 November for 5 nights.

M4 junction 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to maintain journeys by undertaking bridge joint replacement finishes this week. The westbound carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 7 November for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.

M27 junction 3 Southampton, Hampshire: resurfacing and drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by resurfacing a section of the carriageway and carrying out drainage surveys takes place this week. The westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 9 November for 3 nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 5 and return.

In addition, lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 11 November.

M27 junction 4 Chilworth, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of both carriageways near Chilworth finishes this week. The westbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 4 and the link road to the M3 from the M27 westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Monday 7 November.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Stoneham Lane, Bassett Green Road to the Chilworth Roundabout, and the M3 to junction 12 and return.

M27 junction 7 Hedge End, Hampshire: lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing damaged parts on selected lighting columns takes place this week. The eastbound entry slip road and the westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Friday 11 November.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

M27 junction 8 Bursledon, Hampshire: lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing damaged parts on selected lighting columns takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound slip roads and on the roundabout overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Friday 11 November.

M27 junction 9 Whiteley, Hampshire: lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing damaged parts on selected lighting columns takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound slip roads and on the roundabout overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 9 November.

A3 Guildford, Surrey: bridge maintenance

Work to maintain journeys by undertaking bridge maintenance starts this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 10 November for 2 nights.

A3 Hindhead Tunnel, Surrey: maintenance

Routine maintenance takes place this week. The northbound tunnel will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 November for 4 nights. Traffic will be diverted through the southbound tunnel in contraflow under a 40mph speed limit.

A27 Hilsea, Hampshire: lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing damaged parts on selected lighting columns takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the roundabout and on the approach roads overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 8 November.

A27 Bedhampton, Hampshire: survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the westbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 10 November.

A34 Whitchurch, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A34 near Whitchurch starts this week. The southbound carriageway from the A343 Highclere junction to a point south of Whitchurch will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 8 November for 10 nights (Monday to Friday).

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A343 through Hurstbourne Tarrant, the A3093 (Andover) and east along the A303 to re-join the A34 at Bullington Cross.

A34 Marcham (A415), Oxfordshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on both approaches and at the junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 November for 2 nights.
