Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 7 December to Sunday 11 December 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 4 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 3 including junction 4a and 4 entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Monday 7 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327, A30 and A322.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 2 including junction 4a, 4 and 3 entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 8 December for 4 nights. Work on Friday will be between 10pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327 and A30.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures are in place on the approaches and around the roundabout until March 2016.

M3 junctions 6 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: bridge waterproofing

Work to improve safety by replacing the bridge’s waterproof surface and expansion joints has now been completed. The southbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 5 as well as the junction 6 southbound exit and entry slip roads and junction 7 southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Wednesday 9 December to allow the removal of safety barriers and CCTV cameras.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A30 or next available junction.

M4 junctions 8/9 Maidenhead to 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge repair

Work to maintain journeys by undertaking repairs to the bridge near Shurlock Row takes place this week. 2 lanes on both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 December for 2 nights.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: junction improvement

Work to ease congestion by widening the slip roads at the junction continues this week. The slip roads and merge onto the A329(M) Wokingham-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 December for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A329(M) Reading-bound carriageway and the Winnersh Triangle junction. Work is due to be complete by Christmas.

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: structural survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural surveys takes place this week. Lanes on both carriageways at various bridges along the motorway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 November for 3 nights.

A3 Longmoor to Thursley, Hampshire: road marking renewal

Work to improve safety by resurfacing sections of the A3 in Hampshire and Surrey takes place this week. The northbound carriageway between Longmoor and Thursley will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 7 December for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A325 and A31.

A3 Hindhead Tunnel, Surrey: planned maintenance

Work to maintain safety through the Hindhead Tunnel will take place this week. The southbound bore will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Thursday 10 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place through the northbound bore in contraflow with a 40mph speed limit.

A34 Winchester, Hampshire: sign maintenance

Work to keep road users informed by maintaining the signage near Kings Worthy takes place this week. Lane 1 of the northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 December for 3 nights.

A34 Litchfield, Hampshire to Speen, West Berkshire: sign maintenance

Work to keep road users informed by maintaining the signage at various locations takes place this week. Lane 1 of the northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 December for 5 nights.

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016.

A34 Milton to Oxford, Oxfordshire: drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys to the drainage system continues this week. A lane on both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Tuesday 15 December (Monday to Friday only). In addition, the following slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am:

  • Monday 7 December: northbound exit and entry slip roads at Hinksey Hill
  • Tuesday 8 December: northbound entry slip road at Hinksey Hill
  • Wednesday 9 December: southbound exit slip road at Hinksey Hill
  • Thursday 10 December: southbound entry slip road at Hinksey Hill

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

A303 Hampshire (entire length): barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier finishes this week. Mobile lane closures on the eastbound carriageway will be in place overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 7 December.

A303 Bullington Cross to Longparish, Hampshire: bridge repair

Work to maintain journeys by undertaking bridge joint replacement will take place this week. The westbound carriageway from the A34 (Bullington Cross) to the B3048 (Longparish) will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 8 December with a clearly signed diversion in place via the A34 and A343. We advise road users to allow an extra 30 minutes for this diversion.

A404 Handy Cross, Buckinghamshire: structural and carriageway survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out various structural and carriageway surveys starts this week. A lane on both carriageways and on the slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 7 December for 5 nights.
